Entry requirements for this course are normally one of the following: Entry to BEng(Hons): GCE A2 and AS levels or International Baccalaureate: 220 points including Mathematics and at least one other Science/Technology subject. AVCE in Engineering, Science or Manufacturing including relevant optional units with 220 points. BTEC National Diploma MMP. Entry is also possible from the School's Engineering Foundation Year. Progression to MEng is possible following good performance on the first two years of the appropriate MEng/BEng course. Direct Entry to MEng: GCE A2 and AS levels or International Baccalaureate: 280 points including Mathematics at A2 level and at least one other Science/Technology subject. AVCE in Engineering, Science or Manufacturing including relevant optional units with 280 points. BTEC National Diploma DMM.IntroductionDesigned to meet the needs of students and employers, this course aims to produce design oriented problem solvers. It is a studio-based course developed from a long history of design teaching at Huddersfield. Students have gained numerous design prizes in national and international competitions over the last 16 years. There is a significant emphasis on problem solving which stimulates creativity, imagination and lateral thinking.The application of engineering analysis to real engineering problems and the expansion of your knowledge through learning-by-doing is a key feature. We provide a series of design modules which target an area of engineering through a variety of design approaches. These include reverse engineering, investigative projects, failure analysis, open ended and tightly constrained design projects. Our approach demonstrates the relevance and application of taught material, consolidates what you have learned and promotes an acute awareness of professional responsibility. The MEng course is accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers so you satisfy the educational requirements for CEng status early in your professional career.Course StructureYear 1Design Fundamentals Introductory CAD Mechanical Engineering Science Electrical and Electronic Science Professional Studies, C and IT Engineering Applications MathematicsYear 2Analysis of Materials Dynamic Systems Thermofluids Engineering Design Management of Manufacture Maths and Computer Aided Analysis Enterprise ProjectYear 3 Sandwich Supervised Work ExperienceYear 3 Full-time/Year 4 sandwich Thermal Systems Design Product Liability Design Analysis Project Management Individual Project Design Automation Manufacturing Automation Energy Conversion Module titles are indicative and subject to development. MEng students follow one of the School's BEng(Hons) courses in Years 1 and 2 and undertake supervised work experience in Year 3. Year 4 follows the same structure as the associated BEng(Hons) course, except that modules in financial and management accounting replace the choice module.Year 5 (MEng additional year): Advanced Engineering Analysis and Engineering Research and Development Modules in business-management and a major group project, which integrates technical, business and personal skillsTeaching and AssessmentTeaching is by lectures, tutorials, seminars, laboratory and project work.
