About Economics and Econometrics, BA - at University of Exeter Business School

Economics covers a huge range of topics from inflation and the control of monopoly power to the study of developing countries and the finance of multinational companies.

Econometrics is the application of statistical concepts and methods to economics, topics covered include data analysis, estimation, model fitting and testing of hypotheses, extended with special techniques for dealing with economic data. Econometrics is also relevant to a range of related problems in applied economics, including time series analysis, forecasting and policy simulation.

The Economics with Econometrics degree will include core economics and econometrics modules in each of the three years, providing graduates with a high level of technical ability that will be useful in their future careers in any field.

During the first year you'll take four compulsory modules: Principles of Economics; Introduction to Statistical Methods; Introduction to Economietrics and Mathematics for Economists (plus Basic Mathematical Economics if you do not have a A-level in Mathematics). There are also electives to the value of either 30 or 45 credits. In the second, you'll study Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Statistics and Econometrics and Introduction to Econometric Theory. In the final year your learning will focus on further electives, with only one compulsory module, Econometric Analysis.

Please note that no previous study of economics is required or assumed.
