Study
The MA will explore both theory and practice of dramatic writing, addressing contemporary critical debates, analysing written and performance texts and experimenting with a range of techniques in original writing. Writers develop skills in constructive criticism and creative editing of each other's writing creating a supportive writers' network.
Structure
Study will be undertaken via seminar discussions and presentations, screenings, workshops, readings and may include performance visits. Students will be assessed through an analytical essay, original creative writing and working process materials. Students also complete a full-length dissertation, with tutorial supervision and advice, which is to be an original script for stage, screen (TV or feature film) or radio.
Teaching
Modules will be taught by theorists and practitioners, supplemented by masterclasses by visiting specialists. The School of Literature, Drama and Creative Writing brings together writers, scholars, teachers and students in an exploration of the powers and possibilities of literature. Our aim is to make creative writing and critical reading confront one another in ways that sharpen and enliven both.
Employability
The screenwriting pathway within this MA is industry-accredited by Skillset, the Sector Skills Training Council for the UK film industry.
