This program gives you the opportunity to focus on the emerging field of nanotechnology, giving you an introduction to the processes involved in the fabrication of nanoscale integrated circuits and in designing the tools necessary for the mass production of nanoscale systems.
The University of Alberta is a leader in nanotechnology and nano-scale engineering. We are home to the NanoFAB Micromachining and Nanofabrication Facility, the Integrated Nanosystems Research Facility, and the Nanotechnology Research Centre.
This Option is taken as part of a Computer Engineering degree.
Co-op option
This degree can be taken as a Co-op (co-operative education) program. Through the Co-op program, you will have the opportunity to complete paid, supervised work terms throughout your degree. Co-op programs are great way to challenge yourself, gain relevant work experience, and make connections to industry before you graduate!
Most co-op programs include five work terms lasting four months each, in addition to the usual eight terms (four years) of full-time study. Therefore, co-op programs require five years to complete.

Preprofessional Study Time: 1 year
Qualifying Year: All students in the Qualifying Year in the Faculty of Engineering follow a common curriculum in their first year. At the end of the first year, students choose among the various specialized Engineering programs offered and between the traditional and cooperative education streams.
The University of Alberta offers a wide ranges of scholarships to international students. You will be evaluated for these scholarships when you apply for admission. Your eligibility will be based on your high school admission average at the time of your admission offer. We'll assess you for a match to the following three schoolarship. If you are eligible for an admission-based scholarship we will contact you directly!
