About Management Information Systems at University of Alberta

Why study Management Infomation Systems?

IT employees are prized by all organizations — but even more valuable are employees who know how to use IT to solve business problems. This program prepares you to become a manager overseeing IT infrastructure and technical strategy.

In taking this program you should also develop expertise in at least one other area of business, such as Accounting, Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, or Operations Management. You'll also have the option to take electives offered by other faculties such as Science and Arts, preparing you for employment in virtually any field.

The Alberta School of Business offers one of the largest BCom programs in Canada, with five different degree types, 16 majors, and many opportunities for specialization and work experience, including student clubs, business incubators, case competitions, study abroad programs, and more.

Entry requirements

There is no direct entry from high school into the Bachelor of Commerce program (BCom). Students must first complete a year of university in another Faculty or postsecondary institution and take courses in English, Economics, Mathematics and Statistics. Admission to the BCom is competitive based on performance in the required courses and a student's overall academic record.
