About Design, BFA - at University of Alberta

Why take the Design route in Drama?

This four-year conservatory training program provides in-depth study in the three areas of theatre design: costume, lighting, and set design. You'll be assigned to productions in your first year and throughout the program, gaining practical experience while also taking theoretical and traditional coursework. Entrance to the program is competitive, with only 6 spots in each incoming class. You must submit a portfolio and meet the academic requirements to be offered a spot in the program.

Why study Drama at the University of Alberta?

The Drama major, taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts degree, studies the way theatre creates cultural, social, and political meaning with the help of a faculty of experts who are professionals in their field. You will be exposed to every aspect of the theatrical process, including courses in acting, directing, and playwriting, while combining theory and practice through hands-on projects. Our superior classroom and theatre facilities support our dynamic learning environment. In Drama you will be provided the opportunity to learn from local experts from the Edmonton theatre community and to participate in rewarding faculty research projects.
