Why take the Comprehensive Music major at Augustana?
Our Comprehensive option combines intensive studies in instrument or voice, music history, theory, and ensembles. This major is designed to prepare you for graduate-level study in a more specific field, such as music theory, music history, ethnomusicology, or popular music studies.
This major is taken as part of a Bachelor of Music degree - a program rooted in a tradition of excellence in performance and scholarship that provides you with the fundamentals of musical education as well as exposure to collaborative and cutting-edge approaches. Our small class sizes allow you to work closely with your instructors and classmates in a supportive, tight-knit setting.
Why Augustana?
Augustana Campus, located in Camrose, Alberta, one hour southeast of Edmonton, is home to just over 1,000 students from across Canada and around the world. Augustana offers liberal arts and science degree programs in an intimate and personalized setting, with smaller class sizes and a more flexible academic schedule.
Augustana also offers a modified semester system called The Augustana Calendar. Each semester is comprised of a three-week session studying a single course, followed by a more traditional 11-week session studying up to four courses. This gives you the opportunity to dive deeper into research, travel, and other experiential learning endeavors, while at the same time reducing stress and workload.
