of the degree the graduate should be competent in a wide-range of oral surgical procedures. The graduate should also be capable of teaching the practice of oral surgery at postgraduate level. In addition, students will attend a core course common to all of the postgraduate clinical dental disciplines. The core course provides a wide postgraduate background in biology, clinical management, epidemiology and statistics and in science related to dentistry. In the remaining years students will have a wide and varied exposure to the practice of oral surgery (including oral medicine and oral pathology). Students will also undertake a research project leading to a thesis. The findings should be
suitable for publication in peer reviewed international journals. The course leads to the award of Master in Dental Surgery (M.Dent.Ch.) and fulfils the criteria for specialist recognition by the Dental Council of Ireland.
