The MSc Web Development award forms a postgraduate qualification for you to focus specialist study on web development issues such as method and practical implementation aspects. In choosing this award you will have the chance to develop knowledge attained from your undergraduate study and expand this into a deeper level, learning new and emerging technologies. Apart from focusing on industry perspectives you will also develop a strong research perspective relevant to issues and areas of web development. There is an increasing need for new graduates with web development skills and knowledge appropriate for designing and developing applications for business and industry.

Course content

The award covers topics such as: advanced media editing, web standards, multimedia research, mobile web and multimedia, programming for web applications, enterprise database systems, research methods, and the opportunity to select a module choice from a list of available options. In the PgC stage you study four core modules. For the PgD three core topics and an option. You may also go on placement after completing the PgC. At the end of your award you study your dissertation based on a web based topic.

Graduate destinations

After finishing the award you could be employed as a web page designer, database expert, mobile multimedia developer, multimedia researcher, e-commerce specialist or within general computer science.

Entry requirements

Normal requirements are at least a UK second class honours degree or equivalent in a related computing discipline

If you do not meet the above but have significant appropriate experience, your application will be considered, provided that you satisfy the University that you are capable of responding to the challenge of postgraduate work.

If your first language is not English, you will need to demonstrate that you are fluent enough to cope with the course. A minimum score of IELTS 6 or TOEFL 550 (213 computer-based) is normally required.
