About Sport and Exercise Science, BSc (Hons) - at Sheffield Hallam University

This course provides a broad, multidisciplinary study of sport and exercise science. You develop the analytical skills and personal qualities expected of a science graduate alongside specialist knowledge and expertise in sport and exercise. You develop knowledge and understanding of how scientific methods can be used to examine sport and exercise. You study * exercise physiology * sport psychology * sport nutrition * functional anatomy * sport biomechanics. In years two and three you can specialise in your areas of interest. These include * motor control * sport nutrition * health-related fitness * notational analysis of sport performance. Your learning involves taking part in seminars, workshops, practical tasks and laboratory sessions in our first class facilities at Collegiate Crescent Campus. You can go on a work placement for up to six weeks in a sport, exercise, health or leisure-related environment. We have close links with our Centre for Sport and Exercise Science (CSES). This means you can experience advanced level research by taking part in studies in our laboratories. Examples of our research include the effects of different resistance training programmes on strength and power development, and how leadership style affects motivation of athletes in coaching sessions. You gain further practical experience through the CSES sport performance internship programme and develop real world skills in external client environments. Clients of the internship include Sheffield United FC Academy and Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Football Club. The course provides a suitable basis for postgraduate study in the subject area.
