About Games Software Development, BSc (Hons) - at Sheffield Hallam University

Games software design and development is an expanding industry, and Sheffield is home to several companies working in this field. We have strong links with several organisations and companies in the games industry including Sony Computer Entertainment Europe and Codemasters UK. This course is ideal for people with a keen interest in software development who want to work in the computer games industry or similar areas. It is relevant to * gaming * graphics * animation * interactive media * entertainment. We focus on software development for the gaming industry. You develop the practical skills to build playable and interesting games software, and learn how to program using a range of industry standard techniques and tools. You gain knowledge in software production and project management and we introduce you to specialised computer hardware architecture for games. You also learn about the games software industry and gain the business skills needed to publish successful entertainment and games titles. View a video clip of a computer game designed by one of our students, as part of a project for this course. The course covers * game development * C++ programming * 2D and 3D graphics and animation * game platform architectures * game industry awareness * product development * ethical and social aspects of computer games. Normally you spend a placement year working in an IT organisation gaining valuable work experience and developing the personal and professional skills employers look for.
