Immersive experiences at Abertay covers a wide range of applied and theoretical research.
New and emerging immersive technologies present the most significant disruption to the wider creative industries since the advent of the world wide web in the 1990s. The opportunities for cutting edge research and innovation utilising platforms such as AR, VR and XR are vast, and research students working in this area have the potential to generate real impact on emerging technologies, production processes and audiences. At Abertay, you will be supported to conduct this research by our world-leading expertise in computer games education, our connections with key industry partners, such as Microsoft and Sony, and our specialist immersive and game development facilities.
Our research at Abertay is inherently cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary, which is of particular importance for research in immersive experiences. We are the lead partner for InGAME: Innovation for Games and Media Enterprise, an AHRC-funded R&D centre for Dundee's games cluster. Postgraduate students at the University will have access to research and development opportunities, as well as contact with professionals working within the games industry.
Undertaking a research degree in immersive experiences and technologies at Abertay will prepare you for a career not only in academia but also within wider society, including but not limited to the creative industries that you will have the opportunity to network and collaborate with.
