Gothenburg is a major city in Sweden, situated off the Gota Alv river on the country’s west coast. Founded in 1621 and built by the Dutch during the 1600’s, Gothenburg grew from a major trading and shipping seaside town into an innovative modern city.

Founded as an industry school for poor children in 1829, Chalmers University of Technology is still committed to industry and societal development today. It is a research intensive university that promotes independent thinking and creativity. It offers 39 English taught masters programmes and 30 bachelors programmes in subject areas like business and economics, material science, production, engineering and transport.
Of its 10,000 students, 17% of these are international students from more than 70 different nationalities. International students must reach particular eligibility requirements to be accepted on a University programme.
With a student population close to 39,000, the University of Gothenburg offers 80 masters programs and 9 bachelors programs to English speaking international students. It is popular for its business and economics programs, along with musical and woodwork influences. It has strong sustainable vision and is in the top 10 rankings for environmental research. It is also the proud educator of Nobel laureate in medicine – Arvid Carlsson.
Global professionals are encouraged to study at the university through the Swedish International Scholarship scheme. This is awarded to ambitious global professionals wanting to undertake full time masters study. The scholarship aims to develop global leaders in sustainable development.

Studying in Sweden is free for citizens of EU/EEA and those with a permanent Swedish residence permit. Tuition fees for International students vary according to the choice of course but on average range between 80,000 and 140,000 SEK per year. In addition there may be a fee of around 900 SEK upon application. Fees are payable before you receive a residence permit and this can take several months so it is important to act swiftly.
It is worth bearing in mind that life in Sweden can be expensive. The cost of living is relatively high, but this is balanced by its opportunities, amenities and culture.
Gothenburg is a bustling city with opportunities to visit many of its cultural sites free of charge. It has one of the largest botanical gardens in Northern Europe-The Goteborg Botaniska Tradgard- which has a strong emphasis on horticulture, and its many diverse gardens border a charming nature reserve and arboretum. There are several museums to visit including the Natural History Museum, the Museum of Culture and the Universeum Science Museum.
For a little more adventure you could try the popular theme park Liseberg. Here you can find rides, games, amusements, good food and open gardens.
Many visitors enjoy a trip to the Haga region, with its artisan shops, markets and cafes offering a modern hipster vibe. Here you may find many opportunities for part-time work that can fit around your studies.
