Degrees in Norway

In Norway, undergraduate degrees are primarily offered by public universities, university colleges, and specialised institutions. These institutions provide a wide range of bachelor’s degrees, including Bachelor of Science (BSc), Bachelor of Arts (BA) degrees and Bachelor of Engineering (BEng), among others.

Norwegian universities of science and technology are particularly noted for their engineering and technology programmes. Business schools in Norway are known for their focus on sustainability, economics, and management degrees.

Although Norwegian is the main language of teaching, a significant number of undergraduate and most postgraduate programmes are offered in English, aimed at attracting an international student body.

How to Apply for a Degree in Norway

International students can apply directly to the institution of their choice. The Norwegian Universities and Colleges Admission Service (NUCAS) is used for applications to certain undergraduate programs.

Admission requirements usually include academic transcripts, a personal statement, and proof of language proficiency – Norwegian for Norwegian-taught programmes or IELTS/TOEFL for English-taught programmes. Entry requirements can vary by program, potentially including specific subjects or grades from previous education.

Undergraduate Tuition Fees for International Students

One of the most attractive features of studying in Norway is that most public institutions do not charge tuition fees, regardless of the student’s nationality. This policy includes undergraduate programs, making Norway an appealing destination for international students. However, students are normally required to pay a small semester fee, which grants access to various student services and benefits, generally around NOK 300-600.

Although tuition fees are not a concern, living expenses in Norway can be high. Scholarships and part-time work opportunities are available to help international students manage their living costs.
