Smart Automation, Campus 02 University of Applied Sciences
Smart Automation is the new bachelor´s degree programme starting this autumn at the CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences in Graz, Austria.
In the context of Industry 4.0, automation is experiencing a significant upswing and is at the forefront of the use and relevance of technologies in industrial applications. The goal is to digitalise internal and cross-company value chains, as these are of enormous relevance for the company and its competitiveness. The increased demand for highly qualified specialists in the economy has now been taken into account in the recent allocation of study places by the Federal Ministry and the CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences has been awarded 25 study places for the work-friendly full-time bachelor´s degree programme Smart Automation.
The drivers of development are undoubtedly the constantly growing computing power in IT hardware and the improvement of transmission paths such as 5G, where real time really is real time. We all remember barcode readers in logistics, RFID tickets for public transportation, remote control of light and heat in facility management and position tracking with GPS. Smart automation transfers these innovations into the next generation of technical possibilities.
It has been possible to study automation technology at the CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences for 25 years. The work-friendly bachelor´s degree programme Automation Technology is built on three pillars – electrical engineering, computer science and mechanical engineering. With our master´s degree programme Automation Technology – Business you can successfully climb up the career ladder. Both degree programmes are work-friendly and highly practice-oriented. The new full-time bachelor´s degree programme Smart Automation is also oriented towards three concepts – automation, digitalisation and internationalisation.
Three focal points characterise the new Smart Automation degree programme at CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences: product, production and process.
The 6-semester long full-time bachelor´s degree programme has an interdisciplinary approach to the various technical areas: from software development to measurement technology, from sensor and actuator technology to data analysis and embedded systems. From the fourth semester onwards, students can specialise in one of the three areas of product, production or process, furthermore, they carry out selected projects.
The study is organised in a work-friendly way and combines personal attendance classes with so-called online days, so that part-time employment is possible. In the 5th semester, the transition to professional practice becomes more intensive with the extensive deepening of specialized knowledge and the first bachelor thesis. In the 6th semester students continue their in-depth study with a vocational internship and the second bachelor thesis.
The technical progress is global; hence the English language is inevitable for the access of worldwide know-how. Likewise for professional activity in an international environment and more frequently also as company language. Therefore, the bachelor´s degree programme Smart Automation is conducted on English language.
The new “House of Automation” opened its doors in autumn 2020. There is a total of five laboratories on four levels, which are used for laboratory exercises, thesis preparations as well as for research and development projects.
“Goal of the degree programme is to convert technical challenges into intelligent solutions using digital means” adds Udo Traussnigg, head of the Degree Programme Automation Technology at CAMPUS 02 University of Applied Sciences in Graz. “For all those who want to study Smart Automation: this bachelor´s degree programme was designed at the request of industry and together with leading companies.”
