EURECOM - A leading Graduate School and Research center in the field of Digital Science

EURECOM is a Graduate school and Research Centre in Digital Science located in the Sophia Antipolis technology park (French Riviera), a major European place for telecommunications activities. It was founded in 1991 in a consortium form [GIE] that allowed EURECOM to build a large network of renowned academic and industrial partners. EURECOM research teams are made up of international experts, recruited at the highest level, whose work is regularly honored and has earned international recognition.

Priority has been given to three fields of research: Digital Security, Data Science and Communication Systems.

2 - High level education

EURECOM provides graduate and postgraduate courses in Digital Science

EURECOM teaches 4 Master's programs ("Diplôme National de Master") in Computer Science and Networking, fully accredited by the French State and co-delivered by the Institut Mines Télécom, French leading consortium of the best French engineering schools.

The teaching is done 100% in English.

EURECOM also offers two Post Master's degrees in booming sectors: Security for Computer Systems and Communication and Communication for Intelligent Transportation Systems. These degrees are 100% taught in English

MASTER's DEGREES - MSC

EURECOM and IMT (Institut Mines Télécom) offer State-recognized Master of Science degrees in 4 specializations aimed principally at international students in:

Master in Digital Security
Master in Data Science and Engineering
Master in Mobile Computing Systems
Master in Internet of Things (IoT)

These degrees are open to candidates with the equivalent of a 3/4-year Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. The Master's degrees are accredited by the French Ministry of Education and Research as National Master's Degrees in Science and Technology and give access to further Ph.D. studies or to top positions in the industry.

POST MASTER's DEGREES

With IT positions becoming increasingly complex, higher levels of skills are needed. EURECOM's Post Master degrees are designed for Students and Engineers with a completed Master’s degree who are seeking a competitive edge in booming fields such as Digital Security and Connected Vehicles / Intelligent Transport Systems.

The Post Master degree (in French: "titre d'ingénieur de spécialisation"), is accreditated by the CTI, French Accreditation Agency of Engineering curricula, which guarantees state recognition and high visibility among companies. The European Quality Label "EUR-ACE" has been granted to both degrees.

The university building is small and all students are exchange students, so the atmosphere is very positive and social.

The professors are from many different countries and are motivated to lecture and research.

The topics of the courses and research are timely and that boosts studying motivation.

Cote d'Azur as a location is awesome, because here we have only a few months of the "Finnish spring" and the rest of the time it is summer.

One should not fear the infamous bureaucracy of France, because there are many members of the staff of the university, that gladly assist with all the practicalities.

Level of education is high here, so don’t be surprised that you will be required to work a lot. On the other hand, knowledge you’re getting here, is up to date with what industry requires and more often even beyond it (since EURECOM is not just a university, it is also a research center).

University administration, teachers and assistants are very friendly and tending to help you in case you got stuck with something. It’s almost like a small family :)

As well as getting in touch with modern trends in industry, you will have an opportunity to explore an amazing location of Cote d’Azur. There is no need to introduce French Riviera, just have a look on the map and see the distances between all famous locations. There is actually a lot to visit!.

Also, since there is quite few students (from all over the world), you will easily get your “travel buddy” or “chillin’ buddy” with who you will have (for sure a lot of) great memories and fascinating trips all over the seashore.

For me personally, it was a great experience and I’m really grateful, that I had this opportunity.

Fees, Funding and Scholarships at EURECOM

EURECOM grant a limited number of partial tuition fee waivers to highly ranked students from renowned universities.

The scholarship is worth 4000 euros.

Application Procedure Scholarship applications will only be processed after the corresponding application for Master’s programs has been completed online.

EURECOM’s scholarship will be granted by each monthly admission commission.

Accommodation Information for Students

EURECOM does not have on-campus residences but our admission office helps its future students find accommodation by providing them access to database of offers. Students are responsible for their final choice of accomodation and should be aware of all the conditions before signing a housing contract.

The average monthly cost of accomodation depends on the type and size of flat. Prices start at 362€ for a fully furnished flat in a Student Public Residence (run by CROUS) to 650€ in the private sector. Flat-sharing options prove more affordable. Students should make sure whether charges (heating, water, electricity) are included or not in the rent. Prices paid for non included charges usually amount to 60-70€ / month.

Study Abroad Information

Students from an European Union or European Economic Area country do not need a visa to stay in France (UE countries + Norway + Switzerland).

Non EU students need a student resident permit to be allowed to stay on the French territory for the duration of their studies and follow these steps:

1. You need to apply for an extended-stay visas with residency permit with the nearest French consulate.

If you are from select countries, you will need to follow the CampusFrance procedure to obtain a long term visa. If so, please follow the instructions described on the CampusFrance's website of your country.

Please remember to communicate your CampusFrance account number to [email protected] once your online file is validated so that EURECOM managers can validate your account as well.

If your country is not listed, it means you only need to submit your visa application to the nearest Consulate.

2. The consulate will give you an official form (with instructions).

This document is essential as you will have to present it to the French office of immigration and integration (OFII) after your arrival.

3. Your visa needs to be stamped by the customs authorities once you enter the European Union territory so that the date of entry in France is clearly marked.

4. Upon arrival, EURECOM will sent a copy of your passport / visa and the form provided by the consulate to the OFII (French office of immigration and integration).

Upon receipt of these documents, the local office of the OFII will send you by regular mail to your address France a letter acknowledging receipt of the form and invitation for a compulsory medical examination which will take place within three months.

5. Medical examination at OFII:

This procedure is compulsory to validate the resident permit. You will need to go will the following documents:

your passport provided with the adequate visa
a photo of face (please respect the format imposed by the prefecture;
a proof of address which has your name on it (renting contract, rent proof of payment, electricity bill)
fiscal stamps of 55 euros (that you can buy on the site to www.timbresofii.fr)

After the medical visit, your visa will be stamped and an OFII sticker will be put on your passport.

Your visa becomes then valid as a "student resident permit" for a period of 12 months beginning from your date of entry in the EU.

6. Renewal of the resident permit

At the end of the first year of studies in France, you will have to request a renewal of the permit with the Prefecture of your place of residence two months before the expiration of your visa.

The list of documents to prepare, as well as the form are in the office of your Social Affairs Officer.

About 2 weeks after your application, the Social Affairs Officer will send you an email asking you to come and take your “récépissé” (temporary Residence Permit) at the PREFECTURE which is valid for 3 months.

About 2 to 3 months later, you will receive another email asking you to pick up your new Residence Permit at the “Préfecture”.

AFTER GRADUATION

International students graduating from a French university with a master's level and higher can apply to the "AUTORISATION PROVISOIRE DE SEJOUR" (APS). This document will allow you to stay up to 12 months in France to look for a job.

The APS should be requested within 2 months before the expiration of your current resident permit (please note that you cannot apply to APS with a "récépissé", you need to have a valid resident permit when you apply).

You will need to send by post several documents to the prefecture close to your location. Upon receipt of the documents, the Préfecture sends you an invitation to an appointment after you graduate.

After graduation, you will need to book an appointment online and bring the final certifcate of completion of studies provided by EURECOM to receive your APS.

One of the key success factors of EURECOM's project was to understand the importance of the international dimension, particularly in its area of expertise, telecommunications.

AN INTERNATIONAL CONSORTIUM

The legal structure chosen by EURECOM -a Consortium- reinforces this international facet of the school by bringing together academic partners and industrial partners from around the world: TELECOM ParisTech, Aalto University (Helsinki), Politecnico di Torino, Technische Universität München, Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Chalmers University of Technology, Czech Technical University in Prague, BMW Group Research and Technology, Orange, Symantec, SAP, IABG as well of the Principality of Monaco as an institutional member.

Each partner takes part in EURECOM' statutory authorities and has thus an impact on the content of the curriculum and research.

This specific administrative organisation is a major asset because it guarantees that EURECOM's teaching and research is regularly assessed and adapted to the constraints and evolutions of the industrial world and the international context.

A GUIDING PRIORITY

EURECOM also chose to open its recruitment to foreign teachers and students (70% of the students come from outside of France, and all the courses are taught in English). The course catalogue was designed to comply with the European curriculum based on the ECTS to allow better lisibility and facilitate student's mobility.

The scope of EURECOM’s research, whether fundamental or contractual, is also very much international. It is often carried out with partners through bilateral contracts or through European multi-partner contracts.

EURECOM has been the venue for the work carried out by people of diverse origins and cultures whose vision of problems and their solutions often differ. Apart from scientific knowledge, these are the very qualities that must be encouraged in a school that trains the future generation of engineers in information technologies.
