How do I Find a Study Abroad Agent?

If you are planning to study abroad, starting your dream course can be made much easier by using an official representative or agent to help you with your application. An education agent will be to advise on all the potentially confusing aspects of studying abroad, such as applying for a student visa, securing accommodation, obtaining suitable health insurance, discussing any financial assistance or scholarships you may be suitable for and filling out the paperwork correctly for your application. They will also be on hand to answer any questions you have along the way.

If you choose to go down this route, finding the right agent is key to making a successful application, so here are some tips to help you find and select the suitable agency to work with.

The first place to look for a list of overseas representatives would be your chosen universities website. Look for either the international, international students or overseas representatives sections of the website, and if the university partners with education agencies, they should be listed here. From this list you will usually able to pick an agency in your geographical region. This is the ideal list from which to choose an agency, as you know that they are approved by your university and that they will be well placed to advise you through the application process for that university.

You may also find an education agent through search online. If you take this approach to finding an agent, try to make sure that you already have in mind the courses and universities that you would like to study at. Your agent will be able to advise if you are likely to meet criteria for a successful application or if you will need to look at Foundation courses or similar as part of your application.

Education agencies listed by a university usually receive commission from the university for a successful placement, but other education agents may charge the student a fee for their assistance with the application process. If you agree to pay an education agent, make sure you know exactly how much you are paying and what you services you are expecting to receive for your money.

Before you decide upon which education agency you would like to use, do try your best to ascertain if the agency is reputable. Look for reviews and testimonials of students that have been placed, and make sure that they have a working relationship established with universities.
