Course summary
The Complete University Guide 2018:
You will learn how to observe patients and assess their needs. You will develop the knowledge and skills to plan and deliver the most appropriate care for them (underpinned by current research findings) and evaluate the results, in both hospital and out of hospital settings. You will learn how to help people stay independent and maximise their well-being, improving their health outcomes and also care for people as they reach the end of their lives.
Importantly, you'll learn how to communicate with compassion and build relationships with patients, their carers and families, to provide a positive care experience. Your aim will be to improve patients' quality of life and deliver high quality care. You'll need to take lots of factors into account and juggle many priorities to get the best possible outcomes for patients. This will include working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team, for example with:
- Doctors
- Physiotherapists
- occupational therapists
- social workers.
This exciting course will also allow you to develop a broad range of skills including, teaching, leadership and management. Finally, you will reflect the values of the NHS Constitution and the 6 Cs:

Changes to Funding Arrangements
Funding for pre-registration nursing courses has changed. From the 1st August 2017 new nursing students in England will take out maintenance and tuition loans like other students, rather than getting an NHS grant. Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Future inflationary increases will be applied to each subsequent year of the course, subject to government regulations on fee increases.
Entry requirements
112-120 UCAS tariff points, which would normally include at least two subject areas or equivalent qualifications at Level 3 plus GCSE Grade C or above in English language and mathematics.
Access to HE Diploma in nursing/health or social care/science with a Merit/Distinction profile. The Access to HE must contain level 2 numeracy and literacy, alternatively applicants must hold GCSE Grade C or above in English Language and Mathematics.
Applicants need to ensure that they meet, or are working towards meeting, the entry criteria which include English language and mathematics GCSEs and the equivalent of A level qualifications.
Applicants for this course are required to attend an interview and pass the numeracy and literacy test. All candidates must have a current satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS check) and occupational health check. Two satisfactory references are required.

Details of any other entry requirement as governed by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) will be published on their website as soon as they are agreed, following the review of the pre-registration nursing and midwifery courses.
The nursing and midwifery application process has several stages:
1) Application made via UCAS
2) University of West London admissions checks applicant meets the entry criteria
3) The School's Admissions Tutor checks the applicant meets additional criteria (eg personal criteria). The personal statement plays an important role. Please see guidance on writing a personal statement
4) Applicants who meet the above criteria are invited to an interview and selection day Numeracy and literacy will be tested. At this stage applicants need to ensure they are prepared for the tests. 5) Applicants will only be made an offer if they are successful at the selection day and interview.
Experience and recent study
It is beneficial for applicants to have had some related experience in a health care setting. This may be paid, voluntary or as part of a vocational qualification. It is also recommended that candidates have undertaken some academic study within the past five years.
As well as having the above qualifications or equivalents, you must be classified as a Home/EU student prior to starting the course. All students also need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 7.0 or above,and a minimum of 7 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
