Overview

This course aims to develop professional, competent and reflective operating department practitioners who are able to provide high standards of compassionate patient care during the anaesthetic, surgical and post-anaesthetic recovery phases of the perioperative journey.

This course aims to:

  • develop a safe, compassionate and confident perioperative practitioner, who is professional, accountable and can work effectively as part of an inter-professional team.
  • facilitate the development of a research minded perioperative practitioner who is able to use higher order cognitive skills, such as problem solving and critical thinking skills, to inform the clinical decisions they make in practice.
  • develop a perioperative practitioner who is able to integrate theory to practice, promoting innovation and effective change.
  • develop a perioperative practitioner who is an independent, highly motivated, reflective, lifelong learner.
  • facilitate the development of a perioperative practitioner who meets the Standards of Proficiency for Operating Department Practitioners as set out by the HCPC and is eligible to apply to register with the regulatory body (HCPC).

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Fees may be subject to government regulations on fee increases. Future inflationary increases will be applied to each subsequent year of the course, subject to government regulations on fee increases.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

For entry to year one of the course applicants should have:

  • an interest in health and health promotion
  • 72 UCAS points
  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent.

These can include:
two A Levels at grades B and C, or three A Levels at grades D,D,D

BTEC Extended Diploma with Merit, Merit, Pass.
