The MFA at The University of Hong Kong is the first MFA programme in Creative Writing in Hong Kong and Asia. It is vibrantly located in the HKU Black Box at a top 25 Ranked University in the World Overall (2019 QS World University Rankings) and 1st Globally for Most International University (Times Higher Education Rankings 2019). With more than ten years of experience in supporting creative writers, The MFA at HKU offers uniquely designed workshops and craft classes led by top local and visiting writers. A customized balance of coursework and individual supervision, for each student in the MFA, provides professional feedback and advanced practices toward completing an original Creative Thesis, ready for circulation and potential publication.
The MFA at HKU offers the gold standard in the field, including a special focus on creative contexts of the multilingual writer. At HKU, we welcome creative writers from Hong Kong and overseas. The programme offers one year of intensive and dedicated study among fellow writers at the HKU Black Box Studio, a home to creative writers and the arts in Hong Kong. Students join together and forge a life-long community of writers.
Writers may apply with samples from a growing creative project, or a treasured work-in-progress, including short stories, a novel, memoir, a play, a screenplay, or poetry.

To be eligible for admission to the courses leading to a taught postgraduate qualification, a candidate:
a) shall comply with the General Regulations;
b) shall hold a Bachelor's degree of this University or a qualification of equivalent standard from this University or another comparable institution accepted for this purpose;
c) shall satisfy any other admission requirements which may be prescribed from time to time for the relevant curriculum; and
d) for a candidate who is seeking admission on the basis of a qualification from a university or comparable institution outside Hong Kong of which the language of teaching and/or examination is not English, shall satisfy the University English language requirement applicable to high degrees as prescribed under General Regulation G2(b).
An application for exemption from the above requirements shall be considered on a case by case basis.
