About Counselling, MA, PG Dip - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

Study

A thorough grounding in the theory and practice of the person-centred approach to counselling. Receive training in academic research techniques with an opportunity to produce an extended piece of research on an area of personal interest.

Structure

During Year 1, the first and last weeks of the course are spent in intensive full-time training. The pattern for the remaining 30 weeks of the course will be three days a week in full-time training with two days devoted to counselling placement, individual supervision and personal study. Year 2 of the course will start with three two-day sessions and include an individual research project and dissertation, where you will meet regularly with an academic supervisor.

Teaching

The School of Education and Lifelong Learning is one of the UK's leading centres for research and teaching in education, offering a distinctive range of programmes at Postgraduate level. The School is nationally and internationally recognised for its work in educational innovation and social change, literacy and development and mathematics education. Where possible, colleagues from the UEA Literacy and Development Group also contribute to MA sessions. Students are encouraged to attend the public seminar series on Education and Development and informal reading groups.

Employability

A high proportion of Masters graduates from this course occupy senior posts in schools, universities and ministries all over the world. UEA also provides a professional Careers Centre and School Academic Careers Adviser.

Entry requirements

Applicants normally expected to be graduates (of any discipline), but other professional qualifications or demonstrable appropriate academic skills will be considered. Applicants will be expected to have undertaken previous counselling or counselling skills training.
