About Games Design, MA - at University for the Creative Arts (UCA)

Our MA Games Design course allows you to apply your skill and creativity within the growing computer games industry and beyond. We’ll encourage you to develop your creative and entrepreneurial attitude, whilst looking to challenge convention and inform the future of gaming.

Our dedicated computer games facilities include studios of high-end PCs with games systems and interactivity software (including XNA, Unity and Unreal 3D Editor), CGI Autodesk Entertainment suite (with Maya, 3D Studio Max, Motionbuilder and Mudbox), Adobe Master Collection, ZBrush, Andriod tablet development kits, Oculus Rift 2 development kits, a sound production studio with Pro Tools, and film and animation facilities, including production cameras, workshops and digital editing studios.

The course has dedicated access to iOS and Android development kits, as well as access to shared resources including 3D workshops, laser-cutting and rapid prototyping, as well as photography and printmaking.

The computer games industry is growing at a record pace – according to TIGA, The UK video games industry contributed £1.11 billion to the UK economy in 2014, up from £1.01bn in 2013. The number of UK games companies is growing at 22% per annum.

The South East of England holds approximately 48% of the UK games industry. At UCA Farnham, we’re right in the heart of the south east, only 20 minutes away from Guildford “the Hollywood of computer games”, and just 55 minutes from London Waterloo, through which the capital’s games and technology start-ups can be accessed.
