In the most recent Research Excellence Framework, 41 per cent of our submitted research was rated as world leading.
Commitment to practice-based learning
The University of Surrey stands out for its commitment to practice-based learning. We have a huge range of professional-standard facilities, such as labs, workshops and studios, where you can develop your skills and learn by doing. Psychology students, for instance, can conduct experiments in dedicated labs, featuring a virtual reality suite. Language students can practise in dedicated simultaneous interpreting labs, equipped with ISO-certified tools that are commonly used for major multilingual events.

Our campus is home to all the facilities you’d expect from a world-class university: a fully equipped modern library, a buzzing Students’ Union, and a wide choice of shops, cafes and student services.
But Surrey’s facilities stand out for two reasons.
Simulated learning environments
Firstly, across the campus you’ll find amazing simulation facilities: a fully operational pilot process plant, wind tunnels, flight simulators, a courtroom and a Clinical Simulation Centre, home to our Immersive Learning Environment that’ll transport you to the centre of clinical scenarios. These provide a safe, supervised environment to put your skills and knowledge to the test and conduct innovative research.
Surrey Sports Park
Secondly, Surrey Sports Park, located on our Manor Park site, is one of Europe’s leading sports venues and has set a new benchmark for the quality of university sports facilities in the UK and beyond. You’ll find a 50-metre swimming pool, 120-station gym, and a host of indoor and outdoor pitches suitable for a wide range of sports.
A great place to live
With so much happening on campus, it’s easy to see why so many students want to live here. There are more than 6,000 study-bedrooms on campus, at least half of which have an en-suite shower and toilet. There are choices to suit all budgets and requirements and you’re guaranteed university accommodation in your first year as long as your application arrives on time.
