This course gives you an understanding of the cultural, political and economic role of the media in today's society. You develop the skills needed to research, plan, implement and manage a PR campaign to a professional standard. These skills include * editing * electronic publishing * writing for print and broadcast media * communication * presentation * IT * campaign planning * crisis management * ethics. Some parts of the course relate to media studies. These give you a grounding in media forms, meanings and institutions, and improve your awareness of the PR industry and its broader context. In your final year, you do a supervised client-based project where you develop a portfolio of work, which includes * press releases * press cuttings * campaign leaflets * photo calls. This records your development and improves your career opportunities. Your project is an important feature of the course and gives you first hand experience of working with a real life client.
