The Integrated Master's in Mechanical Engineering at Keele provides you with the advanced knowledge and research experience to drive innovation in sustainable transport, energy systems, advanced manufacturing, and beyond. In the final year, you’ll study at master’s level, gaining deeper technical expertise, advanced project experience, and the professional skills to stand out in a competitive global industry.
Why study Mechanical Engineering with Integrated Master's at Keele University?
Mechanical engineering drives innovation across industries—from sustainable transport and renewable energy systems to advanced manufacturing and aerospace technology. It is the discipline at the core of developing efficient machines, optimised systems, and engineered products that transform the way we live and work.
This four-year integrated master’s (MEng) combines undergraduate and postgraduate study in one enhanced degree. You’ll begin with Engineering Fundamentals, building the scientific and technical knowledge to tackle complex problems. Alongside this, Engineering Skills will strengthen your practical ability through labs, workshops, and training in communication and project management, while Engineering Simulation and Mathematics will develop your precision in advanced analysis and modelling. In your fourth year, you will complete master’s-level study, advancing your expertise through specialist modules and a major research project.
You’ll begin with a foundation in mechanics, materials, thermodynamics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, and manufacturing systems, alongside mathematics, programming, and simulation tools. As you progress, you’ll develop expertise in areas such as system performance, design for manufacture, computer-aided design (CAD) and digital manufacturing tools, and thermofluid principles. In later years, you will tackle complex applications in energy conversion, product optimisation, and sustainability-driven design.
At master's level, you’ll advance into contemporary topics in mechanical engineering and deepen your research and professional development. You can select between a Keele-based research project at the forefront of materials, manufacturing, or energy systems, or an industry-led project tackling real-world engineering challenges. This additional year gives you the edge to pursue senior roles, drive innovation, and lead in global mechanical engineering.
Located in the West Midlands, a region renowned for engineering and manufacturing excellence – the programme draws on a strong industrial base. You’ll benefit from industry-informed teaching, networking opportunities, and access to practical experience through local partnerships and initiatives. Professional practice is embedded throughout, preparing you for the workplace with skills in teamwork, ethics and communication. You’ll also grow personally through Professional Challenge Projects based on real industry scenarios – giving you the chance to apply your learning and stand out in a competitive engineering landscape.
