Electrical and electronic engineering sits at the heart of modern life, enabling clean energy systems, global communications, smart devices, automation, and sustainable infrastructure. From renewable power generation to the design of intelligent electronics, electrical engineers shape the systems that power economies and connect communities.

This four-year Integrated Master’s (MEng) combines undergraduate and postgraduate study in one enhanced degree. You’ll begin with Engineering Fundamentals, building the scientific and technical knowledge to tackle complex problems. Alongside this, Engineering Skills will strengthen your practical ability through labs, workshops, and training in communication and project management, while Engineering Simulation and Mathematics will develop your precision in advanced analysis and modelling. In your fourth year, you will complete master’s-level study, advancing your expertise through specialist modules and a major research project.

From your first year, you’ll build core knowledge in electrical circuits, digital electronics, programming, and simulation tools, alongside early study of renewable energy concepts and embedded systems. As you progress, you will develop expertise in power systems, automation, and control, while specialist study deepens in energy conversion, smart grids, renewable integration, and power electronics. In later years, you’ll integrate your knowledge to tackle complex applications such as clean energy transitions, advanced embedded systems, and digital infrastructure.

At master's level, you’ll explore advanced topics in electrical and electronic engineering while enhancing your professional development. You will choose between two major research projects – one based at Keele on cutting-edge research, and the other industry-led, connecting your work directly to real-world challenges. This final year strengthens your ability to innovate, manage complex projects, and position yourself for leadership roles in a fast-moving sector.

Located in the West Midlands, a region renowned for engineering and manufacturing excellence – the programme draws on a strong industrial base. You’ll benefit from industry-informed teaching, networking opportunities, and access to practical experience through local partnerships and initiatives. Professional practice is embedded throughout, preparing you for the workplace with skills in teamwork, ethics and communication. You’ll also grow personally through Professional Challenge Projects based on real industry scenarios – giving you the chance to apply your learning and stand out in a competitive engineering landscape.
