Developmental and cell biology deals with the study of morphogenesis and cellular regulation at the molecular level. The subject of interest is the cell, the conceptual basis of contemporary biology, as well as collections of cells and their mutual interactions - i.e. the multicellular organism and its ontogenetic development. The field studies the programmed use of genetic makeup during cell differentiation and morphogenesis of the embryo and adult. Genetically or epigenetically based regulatory events in the processes of proliferation, programmed death, migration, communication, recognition and cooperation of cells and their complexes during individual organism development are investigated.
