About École Polytechnique

École Polytechnique, also known as l’X, is the leading French institute which combines top-level research, academics, and innovation at the cutting-edge of science and technology. Its academic programs – Bachelor, Ingénieur Polytechnicien, Master of Science and Technology and PhD – are highly selective and promote a culture of excellence with a strong emphasis on science, anchored in humanist traditions. The school produces socially responsible professionals who excel in leading complex and innovative projects which address current and future challenges facing our society.

L’X guarantees an outstanding experience to its international students, from their admission to their careers’ follow-up, providing them with very dedicated services, such as individual academic coaching, administrative and financial support and counseling, or Alumni mentoring. This unique environment, combined with the high-level of the students who go through a very selective process to access École Polytechnique, also attracts some of the most distinguished faculty in the world.

With its Research departments which are joint research units with the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), the École Polytechnique Research Center explores the frontiers of interdisciplinary knowledge to provide major contributions to science, technology, and society.

L’X is also a founding member of Institut Polytechnique de Paris. The Institut Polytechnique de Paris is a public higher education and research institution comprising five prestigious French engineering Schools: École Polytechnique, ENSTA Paris, ENSAE Paris, Télécom Paris and Télécom SudParis. Under the aegis of the Institute, they bring together two centuries of expertise to pursue two major goals: to develop world-class training programs and cutting edge research.

Study Abroad Information

École Polytechnique has integrated the international dimension into its various training courses. Various opportunities for mobility are thus offered to l'X's students to enable them to build a solid international profile and to best address the challenges of the multicultural world in which they evolve. The study of foreign languages is also an important aspect of the school's courses, which offer a wide choice of languages including Japanese, Chinese, Russian, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.

Ingénieur Polytechnicien program

Students enrolled in the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program have the possibility to move abroad each year of their course as part of an internship (humanitarian internship in 1st year, internship in a company in 2nd year, research internship in 3rd year, end-of-study internship in 4th year). They can also spend their entire 4th year in a prestigious foreign university. The fourth year of the Ingénieur Polytechnicien program is in fact a dual degree programme, since it allows students to validate the École Polytechnique Diploma and to obtain a Master's degree from a partner institution in France or abroad. These international academic stays are facilitated by the double-degree agreements that exist between the School and many world-renowned universities.

Bachelor's degree

Students in the Bachelor program are also encouraged to internationalize their educational path. École Polytechnique thus offers them the opportunity to spend an exchange semester abroad, either at a partner university or at a university of their choice.

Master's degree

Each Master of Science and Technology at l'X contains two internship that can be completed abroad.

Summer School

École Polytechnique also allows its students to benefit from preferential conditions to study in its partners' Summer Schools.
