The focus of the programme is to develop design skills from the basis of a sketchbook, utilising CAD, alongside manual techniques, while developing an understanding and planning of three-dimensional spaces for a specific user group.
Throughout the duration of the HNC, Interior Design students will learn to creatively interpret a design brief and communicate their vision in both visual and oral form. Within the community of the studio environment, students discuss, develop and create design proposals from challenging design briefs. With tutor guidance, students are encouraged to critically evaluate their own and others work, share ideas and ultimately design spaces that will create a positive experience for the user. Creativity is developed through the design process via a broad range of dynamic commercial design projects, live projects, collaborations, and competitions.
Working alongside tutors with many years professional industry experience in the commercial sector, some of whom are currently running established design practices; students are also offered the opportunity to undertake live projects, competitions and study trips to locations such as Berlin, Malta, and Barcelona.
The course is placed on the Scottish Credit Qualifications Framework at Level 7. For more information on the framework visit: www.scqf.org.uk/the-framework/.
