Broaden your individual career opportunities within and beyond the school context. If you're a teacher, or you already work in education (with school-aged learners), this course has been designed with you in mind.
Approximately 10% of learners have dyslexia. Schools recognise that they need to understand, identify and support children with dyslexia. By acquiring specialist teaching and assessment skills around dyslexia, you'll be a valuable addition to the school team.
Our PGCert in SpLD/Dyslexia comprises two 30 credit modules that integrate both theory and practice. You'll study through workshops, case studies and assignments, justifying your professional practice through research. Modules comprise taught sessions and assessed projects.
You'll usually be a teacher or teaching assistant, and must have an undergraduate degree and a minimum of two years' experience within an educational context. You should be interested in the inclusion of vulnerable learners with SpLD/dyslexia, and have a strong drive to improve outcomes for these learners through specialist intervention.
If you're planning to complete the additional work required to meet the professional practice elements of the modules (in order to enable you to apply for ATS/APS), you'll need to have had at least two years' full-time experience in the classroom. You'll also need current access to school-aged learners who may be dyslexic (but don't have other significant identified SEN).
