Masters in Denmark

Universities in Denmark offer a range of master’s degrees, known for their strong emphasis on research and academic excellence. These degrees are offered at both universities and other specialised institutions, awarding postgraduate degrees such as Master of Science (MSc), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Research (MRes), and Master of Business Administration (MBA).

Duration

A master’s degree in Denmark typically lasts two years when pursued full-time. Certain specialised programs might take longer than this to complete.

Language of Teaching

While Danish universities usually teach in Danish, there is a growing number of master’s degrees offered in English, especially designed to attract international students. However, proficiency in Danish may be required for some courses or for participation in certain aspects of university life.

How to Apply for a Masters Degree in Denmark

International students can apply through the centralised application system used by Danish institutions, called Optagelse.dk. The application process generally requires a CV or resume, academic transcripts, a personal statement, and letters of recommendation.

Language proficiency in English is essential for programs taught in English, with IELTS, TOEFL, or similar English language tests accepted. For programs taught in Danish, proof of language proficiency is also necessary. Academic requirements might include a relevant bachelor’s degree and could also involve specific tests like the GMAT or GRE, depending on the program.

Postgraduate Tuition Fees for International Students

Tuition fees for non-EU/EEA international students in Denmark are generally higher than for EU/EEA nationals, and vary by program and institution. Students can expect to pay between €6,000 and €16,000 annually. However, all EU/EEA students usually do not pay tuition fees.

A variety of scholarships and financial aids are available, which can help with the financial burden for international students. These scholarships are provided by Danish universities, government-funded programs, and various international organisations, and can cover tuition fees and living expenses.
