Croatia Student Visa Guide

Croatia is an increasingly attractive destination for international students, and is known for its breathtaking coastlines, rich history, and cultural diversity. The country’s universities offer a wide range of programs recognized for their quality in education, particularly in fields such as humanities, sciences, and engineering.

Beyond its academic offerings, Croatia is celebrated for its friendly atmosphere, historical sites, and vibrant lifestyle, making it a perfect setting for students looking to enrich their educational experience in a unique European country.

Croatia Student Visa Process and Fees for International Students

Students from EU/EEA countries do not need to obtain a visa or residence permit to study in Croatia. Non-EU/EEA students planning to study in Croatia for a period longer than 90 days need to apply for a temporary stay permit, which essentially serves as a student visa. The process starts with gaining admission to a Croatian higher education institution. Once you have your acceptance letter, you must prove you have sufficient funds to cover your living expenses in Croatia, typically around 800 HRK (Croatian Kuna) per month, in addition to covering tuition fees.

International students can submit the application at the Croatian embassy or consulate in their home country, including the following documents:

  • A letter of acceptance from the Croatian educational institution confirming your enrollment
  • Evidence of sufficient financial means to cover your stay
  • Proof of health insurance coverage for the duration of your stay
  • A valid passport and passport-sized photographs
  • A police clearance certificate from your home country

The application fee for a temporary stay permit varies but is generally around 420 HRK. It’s crucial to apply well in advance of your intended start date, as processing times can vary.

Upon arrival in Croatia, you must register your address at the local police station within three days. If you’re staying in a hotel or a similar establishment, they will typically handle this registration on your behalf.

Croatia Student Visa Work Regulations

Croatia offers international students the opportunity to work part-time during their studies, allowing up to 20 hours of work per week. This enables students to gain work experience, improve their language skills, and manage their personal expenses more effectively.

Following the completion of their studies, graduates may seek opportunities to extend their stay in Croatia, either by finding employment or by engaging in further education, subject to the country’s immigration policies at the time.
