Masters in Canada

In Canada, masters degrees are offered by a wide range of institutions. These include research universities, which offer a range of subject areas; specialised institutions that focus on areas like technology and the arts; and business schools that offer targeted programs like the Master of Business Administration (MBA). Degrees awarded include Master of Science (MSc), Master of Arts (MA), Master of Research (MRes), among others.

Duration

The duration of postgraduate degrees in Canada usually ranges from one to two years for most master’s degrees, with research degrees such as a Master of Research taking longer.

Language of Teaching

English and French are the primary languages of teaching, with a large number of programs, offered in English. This makes Canada an attractive destination for international students.

How to Apply for a Masters Degree in Canada

International students typically apply directly to the institution of their choice. Applications generally require a resume or CV, academic transcripts, letters of recommendation, a statement of purpose, and proof of language proficiency (IELTS, TOEFL, or equivalent tests). For programs taught in English, language requirements will be higher than at the undergraduate level. Academic requirements usually include a relevant bachelor’s degree. Some programs may require tests like the GMAT.

Postgraduate Tuition Fees for International Students

Tuition fees for international students vary widely depending on the program and institution, but are normally higher than for Canadian citizens or permanent residents. EU/EEA students will pay the same fees as international students. Scholarships and financial aid opportunities are available, but can be competitive.
