Our ability to give a warm welcome was tested by the very best when we received a visit from the Institute of Hospitality’s Chief Executive recently.
At the end of January, Philippe Rossiter was given a tour of our world class training facilities including kitchens, restaurant, bistro, spa, demonstration theatres and the historic dome which is the centre of our University of Derby Buxton campus. Staff in our kitchens, restaurant and spa, are students from our BA, BSc, MA and MSc courses – where studying goes together with real life experience.
Philippe learnt about our award winning staff, high quality learning environment and how employable our students are after graduation. He said “imaginative and open engagement with the industry, as well as the various initiatives on the international stage, provide an excellent platform upon which the University can further grow and strengthen its reputation.”
Student Diana Petkova Belichovska from Bulgaria who is studying our MA Hospitality Management said “applying was easy and I got lots of support throughout the application process from the International Team.” She commented also on life in Buxton saying “the Opera House concerts and performances are great and a really good chance for socialising. I’d definitely recommend studying a MA at Buxton.”
Our Dean, Dr Peter Dewhurst supported the visit by Philippe, and Diana’s comments, by saying “as our programmes are accredited by the Institute of Hospitality, it was a pleasure to welcome Philippe, and give him the opportunity to experience the environment that our students learn in. We look forward to continuing to develop our relationship with the Institute to ensure that our students are increasingly well-prepared for the world of work.”
At the University of Derby we have hundreds of international students from all over the world and many who join us in Buxton are from our partnership school: Swiss Hotel Management School in Switzerland. Applying online for any of our courses is really easy and as Buxton is in the centre of the UK’s first National Parks, we get lots of tourists – meaning you too will be in the middle of the hospitality industry.
Philippe and Diana were impressed by Buxton and we hope that you are too. Make our university your choice and choose Buxton for your hospitality course.
