Academics and alumni bring modules to life with real life business experience.

Dr Ana Canhoto, senior lecturer in marketing at Oxford Brookes University Business School is recognised for her knowledge on 4G technology and its impact on the market.   “Who wants 4G?” was the focus of her talk to industry experts, academics and Oxford Brookes students at BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) at Oxford University. She discussed the benefits and limitations of 4G, arguably one of the leading telecommunication technologies currently available in the world.
This presentation raised a number of thought provoking issues such as the dangers of underestimating 4G, which has occurred with other ground-breaking technologies. For example an internal memo from the Western Union in 1876 stated, “The telephone has too many shortcomings to be considered a means of communication.” This was in response to Alexander Bell, the inventor of the telephone, trying to sell the company his invention. However, where would the world be now without the telephone?
Prior to lecturing, Ana worked as a management consultant for the telecommunications industry, where she conducted market overviews, oversaw market research and formulated entry strategies. She holds a PhD from the London School of Economics, as well as an MBA from the London Business School.

Ziqiao Wang, a former student, studied an MSc in Finance and is now working for Apple. His job is in the Apple Store Leadership Programme, a 24-month management training programme based in Shanghai. The strong links Oxford Brookes University Business School has with prestigious companies such as IBM, BMW, Microsoft and KPMG provides Oxford Brookes students opportunities to gain commercial experience.

Raimundo Buguera, alumnus and business owner, has expanded his IT company and now advises the government of Gibraltar on technological issues. This has spawned a consultancy project for Oxford Brookes MBA students. He is now managing director and owner of Elitad, a social media consultancy and Innovae Vision, one of the leading augmented reality companies in Europe.

“I wanted to support current Brookes MBA students and give them the opportunity to work on a real-life consultancy project in an international setting. The students worked with me to develop a technological start-up system in Gibraltar – projects like this can really help to expand your thinking.
