The Department of Information Science (DIS) invites applicants to join its thriving, diverse and successful teaching and research community, with access to top quality IT facilities and support from academics at the forefront of the information science discipline.
DIS offers three full-time taught Masters programmes (MA/MSc Information and Library Management, MSc Knowledge Management and MSc Information Management and Business Technology) that provide students with the opportunity to study modules considering information services and libraries, social network analysis, website and database design, business intelligence analysis and project management. Postgraduate students are based in the Department’s state-of-the-art Bridgeman Building, which includes study and IT facilities located in very high quality, open-plan space which benefits from a central location on campus.
The Department also welcomes applications for PhD research in order to maintain its world-class reputation as a centre for information science-related research. PhD students are supported by two supervisors with appropriate expertise, and students have access to funds supporting conference attendance. During the three years of full-time research, students undertake a formal programme of research methods training (on average 10 days per year). Applicants are welcome to discuss specific areas of interest with academic staff in the Department.
Loughborough University topped the league tables in THE’s Best Student Experience during June 2011, and the DIS was ranked in the same month as number one in the UK Complete University Guide 2012 for teaching Librarianship and Information Management. DIS was ranked as the top Department in the UK for studying Librarianship and Information Management in the Times Good University guide 2013.
The Department welcomes all enquiries regarding its postgraduate programmes. For more information please visit our website or email our postgraduate admissions team at: email@example.com.
