London Film School Celebrating 20 Years of Screenwriting Excellence

London Film School

This year London Film School will celebrate 20 years of MA Screenwriting, and 20 years of some incredible students, scripts and screen work.

Over the course of two decades LFS has witnessed a huge amount of talent but even more hard work from screenwriters who have gone on great success in film and TV. As part of the intensive one-year programme, writers have the opportunity to develop their original voice, embed professional practice and enhance employability.

Graduates from the MA Screenwriting programme have gone on to write for BBC, Netflix, Disney+, ITV, Sky and Apple+. They have won Oscars, worked alongside the likes of Steven Knight and taken part in labs and residencies everywhere from Cannes to Sundance.

It takes time, tenacity and talent to develop a career as a screenwriter, and for each of our graduates the path they take is unique to them. Read on to find out a little more about what the LFS writers have accomplished.

What students and alumni have achieved

Recent graduate Chloe Hudson was recently recognised for her work by being selected for the distinguished Canneseries Unlimited, a writing residency aimed at developing the next generation of series writers and original content. As part of the residency Chloe took part in a rigorous development process and earn a diploma from the Université Côte d’Azur.

Not all screenwriting graduates go on to work purely in writing. Said Zagha who graduated in 2023 directed the first two episodes of a Netflix Original series called Crashing Eid. The four-episode family dramedy set in Saudi Arabia hit the top ten charts in about 32 territories and stayed in the top ten lists in the MENA region for over seven seven weeks.

Eva Trobisch who graduated in the tenth cohort of screenwriters from LFS has already been named as one of Variety’s 10 Directors to watch for 2024. Her second feature, Ivo, had its world premiere at Berlinale.

Alumnna Despina Ladi has a wealth of experiences with writing under her belt, having taken part in Series Mania Writers Campus 2023, TorinoFilmLab Series Lab as well as selected for Berlinale Talents, MFI Script 2 Film and Sundance Collab. Despina is now working on her own TV dramedy series and is a member of BAFTA Connect.

Kaamil Shah has seen great success with his project Count Abdulla. The series was initially developed while at LFS and screened on ITVX, described by The Guardian as “deftly written”.

Kefi Chadwick has recently been working on the Disney+ adaptation of Jilly Cooper’s much loved Rivals and collaborating with Pippa Bennett-Warner on another adaptation for Noho/ITV.

Ameir Brown graduated in 2018 and has since worked on the forthcoming Disney+ drama, A Thousand Blows with Steven Knight and starring Stephen Graham, as well as BBC1 thriller The Capture and Apple TV+’s Criminal Record. Most recently, Ameir has written two episodes of upcoming BBC/Netflix drama, Champion, created by Candice Carty-Williams.
