Confronted with the need to examine theories of industry analysis for his semester one Strategy assignment, Dhaval Bahdra, chose to ground this analysis in a context that has now become his career, the Indian solar market. He knew this was an area that interested him, because even after submitting the assignment he carried on intensively researching the market. Following a chance meeting with an MBA student from the University of Liverpool, the two founded i-Solarlite, a UK registered company.
A little over two years from graduation and now a Chief Financial Officer with a business he co-founded, Dhaval is seeing the benefits of studying the Leicester MBA.
“My title is CFO but with the business growing so fast I find myself getting involved in manufacturing and marketing, well everything in fact! The breadth and depth of study offered by the MBA comes into its own every day, from strategic insight to business planning, to interpretation of financial statements.”
At i-Solarlite, Dhaval is clearly putting many of the ideas he had learned from the MBA into daily practice. He sees his next challenge as to build upon the success that his hard work has generated.
“We need for resources to fulfil our dream of replacing harmful kerosene lanterns to clear sources of energy. These resources come at a price. Currently we are operating in only two states, Bihar and Uttar-Pradesh. We need to improve our inventory to cater for the other states and do more hiring to help our business grow. To realise our ambitions we need new investors on board. We not only need money but also require a supporting hand. An investor who is able to share the passion of the i-Solarlite team.”
Like Dhaval you too can make a difference and expand your horizons by joining the Leicester MBA programme. We look at management at in a different light and look for students who are willing to have their basic managerial assumptions challenged. Our goal is to equip you with a range of techniques and concepts; however, whereas most business schools stop there, we go further. We guide you as you unpick these concepts, challenge them and question their relevance to contemporary society, and use this knowledge to inform practice.
Our MBA is designed to allow you to either concentrate on general management or follow a specialist route in Marketing, Finance, Employee Relations, Quality Management or Information Technology Management. These specialisms plus our wide range of option modules means you can tailor the course to suit your career needs. As Dhaval has shown the Leicester MBA will enable you to integrate and apply the knowledge, approaches and methods you have learnt to a variety of case studies and your own managerial and work experiences.
We are one of the few business schools that offer our MBA programme by both full-time on-campus or part-time distance learning study. Whichever route you choose, you will be supported by the same tutors, cover the same modules and receive the same award.
The Leicester MBA is accredited by the Association of MBAs (AMBA). AMBA accreditation is internationally recognised as the global standard for all MBA programmes, meaning you can be confident of your quality.
