The London Interdisciplinary School (LIS)
Whether you’re considering undergraduate or postgraduate courses in the UK, you might be struggling to find a degree that prepares you for the realities of the working world you’ll face after your studies.
You know that as a graduate, you’ll need to be more versatile, more entrepreneurial, and more resilient than ever before; but too many traditional universities in the UK still offer narrow, single-subject degrees that won’t prepare you for your future career, whether in the UK or abroad.
The London Interdisciplinary School (LIS) is here to change that. LIS is building a university designed to teach you knowledge and skills from multiple subjects and disciplines and prepare you to kickstart your career with the tools you need to succeed.
Based in Whitechapel, east London, LIS has been described as “an incubator for modern polymaths” and offers problem-centric interdisciplinary undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
Stand out from the crowd and make an impact on the issues that matter to you with an exciting new degree from the London Interdisciplinary School.
The interdisciplinary bachelor’s degree is the first undergraduate degree of its kind in the UK.
Each term, you’ll tackle a specific problem like inequality, sustainability, or the ethics of AI. You’ll also be able to shape the degree to suit your passion and interests, by working on specific problems you care about.
The degree shatters the division between arts and sciences, as you study concepts and theories from subjects like economics, network science and contemporary art, adopting the lenses through which to understand these complex issues.
At the same time, you’ll learn a variety of in-demand, highly transferable skills, and qualitative and quantitative methods, including coding, interview techniques, and storytelling.
LIS brokers paid internships each year, to help give you a broad insight into the world of work and build your CV while you study.
You’ll graduate with wide-reaching academic knowledge, diverse transferrable skills, and a problem-solving mentality that will help you succeed in any career path. The first cohort of LIS students joined in 2021, and by applying to the 2023 cohort, you’d join them as a generation of founders at a new university.
If you’ve been looking for a move that will give you an edge at work or want to learn new ways of understanding that help you solve problems, the LIS master’s might be for you.
The interdisciplinary master’s programme is focussed on rapid innovation in how we think, unlock new ideas, and solve existing problems. It’s for curious and expansive thinkers who are excited by several different disciplines.
As the founding master’s cohort studying at LIS, you’ll gain a deep knowledge in a range of disciplines, such as statistical analysis, 3D modelling, economic theory, and the visual arts.
Polymaths are in high demand, and specialising in interdisciplinary (ID) thinking will allow you to become one. There are only twenty spaces available for the master’s, and applications are open now.
LIS host regular online and in person events. The next master’s open day will be held online on 6th June, and the next bachelor’s Q&A will be held online on 15th of June. You can sign up to attend any upcoming events by completing this events registration form.
LIS are currently accepting applications for their master’s starting in October 2022, and applications for the bachelor’s 2023 cohort will open in August 2022. You can stay up to date by signing up to the Polymath newsletter. LIS accepts international students for all courses and can offer guidance if you have questions about visa sponsorship or financial support, or your specific circumstances.
