Photonics is a field within optics that looks at the study and manipulation of light. It encompasses the generation, detection, and manipulation of photons, and their applications in a wide range of areas, including telecommunications, medicine, and manufacturing. There are several subfields within photonics, such as optics, quantum optics, and laser physics.
