About Educational Studies, PhD - at University of Windsor

The Faculty of Education, University of Windsor, is heart and home to Graduate Students, from near and far, who come to engage with one another and a diverse collection of tenured and tenure-track faculty with a wide range of scholarly and pedagogical interests that reflect the many issues that matter to the field of education.

We offer a range of options leading to M.Ed. and Ph.D. degrees through part- and full-time studies, providing students with opportunities to explore a range of educational issues that touch upon curriculum, educational administration, cognition and learning, educational policy, and socio-cultural and political aspects of education.

Welcome from the Associate Dean

A warm welcome from Dr. Glenn Rideout, Associate Dean, Graduate Studies and Research at the Faculty of Education. In this site, we have provided information about our programs that we hope will be helpful to you as you consider pursuing graduate studies at the Faculty.

At the Faculty of Education, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse and active community of scholars and researchers who are addressing issues of current educational interest. A sampling of these research topics include critical thinking in teaching education and leadership for girls in the new urban environment, constructs of cultural border crossing and collateral learning in mathematics and science, relationship between leadership styles and teacher socialization, institutional ethnography, and intergenerational, bilingual and multicultural educational issues. As a graduate student at the Faculty of Education, you will have the opportunity to engage with professors as they pursue their research agenda, and to develop your own research interests.

Full-time graduate students may be eligible for a variety of funding and scholarships from internal and external sources during their tenure, including possible funding from OGS, SSHRC, and other funding bodies. Entrance scholarships are available to applicants with a history of outstanding academic work. Graduate assistantships are also available on a competitive basis for those students seeking further financial support, graduate-level research, and teaching experience.

The Faculty is pleased to offer programs leading to a M.Ed with specializations in curriculum studies, educational administration, and second language acquisition, culture and society. Students have the option of completing programs through a course-based only option, major paper, or thesis.

We invite you to consider doctoral studies if you have completed Master's level studies and research. The Faculty of Education offers a Joint Ph.D. program in Educational Studies External Link, in coordination with Brock University and Lakehead University. This program provides opportunities for study in the areas of Cognition and Learning, Social/Cultural/Political Contexts of Education, and Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. The Joint Ph.D. is a unique opportunity to study full-time or part-time with a cohort of graduate students who proceed through the program based on individualized plans of study facilitated by the flexibility of online program delivery and alternative assessment procedures.

We invite you to submit an application to the program that best suits your graduate study needs. Hundreds of MEd and PhD graduates would agree that this is a positive first step to a rewarding graduate study experience.
