About Certificate of Higher Education Business Management, Cert HE - at University of Wales Trinity Saint David

Course Overview

Our CHE is attractive to those interested in innovative teaching and assessment approaches. It is an ideal, higher qualification for the current or aspiring operational manager in the public, private or third sector. The Certificate of Higher Education is a one-year programme that can be studied full-time over two semesters or part-time over three semesters. However, it is anticipated that the programme will be most suitable and attractive to individuals who cannot, for various reasons, commit to a full-time course.

In particular the CHE can offer a flexible route for individuals: to gain a level 4 qualification that will enhance their employability; to formalise the experience of individuals already in full time employment in jobs relevant to management; and provides an opportunity for career development. It also offers a highly regarded award for individuals who are unable for other reasons to commit to a full time course.

The CHE provides every opportunity for qualifying students to progress to a 'top-up? HND or degree within the School. In this way the programme will provide a flexible approach to fostering a student's personal and intellectual development, enabling the achievement of a valuable qualification in its own right (the CHE) and potentially a HND/BA as well.

Key Features

The programme integrates theoretical study and application to real world cases, in each module's teaching strategy but also in direct interaction with the University's external partnerships, including employers' organisations, professional associations, international partners and spin off entrepreneurial activities. In particular our business management graduates have analytical, research, information technology, interpersonal, cross cultural communication and empathetic skills.

The skills of managing ICT, communication to peers and external organisations, numeracy, problem solving, interacting in teams, ethical reasoning, critical appraisal, self-management and leadership have been particularly applauded. Students' progress through the programme ensures that they become increasingly self-confident and capable of managing their own learning. Graduates will have developed self-confidence and the ability to work in diverse environments and communicate to a wide variety of levels.

All subjects studied on the programme are relevant to the world of work, across specialist disciplines and sectors. The skills developed to achieve academic success are also those required by employers and for study at higher levels. The flexibility of the programme allows students opportunities to specialise or to maintain their general studies to keep their options open depending on the trends in the job market.

The involvement of employers, visiting speakers and other organisations in the delivery of the programme gives opportunities to students to interact with external networks and see the relevance of their studies.
