About Bachelor of Business, Major in Economics (Hamilton), BBus - at University of Waikato

You can apply to enrol for the Bachelor of Business now, but you don't need to select your major subject/s until December - February. Once you've submitted an application form for the BBus, please email the Management Student Centre at [email protected] or phone 0800 654 303 to discuss your preferred major subject options from the list below.

Looking for a dynamic business career that puts you at the forefront of strategic and technological changes in the global marketplace?

Waikato's new three-year Bachelor of Business will prepare you to lead and manage a successful company or organisation in a wide range of industries. Or take the entrepreneurial route and create your own start-up business.

This degree will equip you with well-rounded business and financial acumen across all the key areas of management, including accounting, digital business, economics, finance, marketing and supply chain management.

It will ensure you graduate with the relevant business knowledge and practical skills that today's employers are looking for.

All students will gain practical business experience in third year through a workplace internship or applied research project, where you'll have the opportunity to apply your new skills to a real-world organisation.

As a BBus student, you'll gain valuable insights into why companies need to be agile and innovative to succeed in today's unpredictable global marketplace.

You'll learn how to help organisations become more profitable and efficient, and what's involved in managing international supply chains. You'll understand why it's important to focus on satisfying the needs of your customers, and discover the process of bringing new products to market.

And you'll be introduced to disruptive digital technologies - such as big data and cloud computing - that are revolutionising all aspects of business.

In second and third years, you'll take more advanced papers that build expertise in your major subject/s.

Through practical assignments and case studies, students will develop the critical thinking required to  manage transformative business projects, lead and work collaboratively with others, and apply critical thinking to find innovative solutions for complex problems.

Whichever career path you take, with the Bachelor of Business you'll develop core skills in decision-making, analysis, innovation, teamwork, leadership and communication that will stand you in good stead throughout your career.

If you'd like to become a Chartered Accountant, you can use this degree to fast-track your journey by majoring in Accounting. You'll need to take a specific suite of 16 papers recognised by CAANZ, CPA Australia and ACCA. See below for full details.
