About General English Language Programme, GE - at University of Waikato

You can study general English for a minimum of three weeks and for as long as for up to six months.

The programme includes core language skills and vocabulary, fluency and accuracy in listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will receive a Waikato Pathways College Certificate of Attendance. Individual graded reports are also available.

It is also suitable for students preparing to enter the Academic English programme.

Fees,  Dates & Duration

Study for a minimum of three weeks to six months.  Current promotion pay for four weeks and get the fifth week free.

  • Full-time (23 hours per week) $450 per week.
  • Part-time (15 hours per week) $330 per week.

Intakes every second Monday unless stated

Course Requirements

Classes are offered from elementary to advanced levels. You will complete an initial placement test to assess your entry level, and thereafter you have the option of further testing to move up the levels.

The average class size is 13 and will not exceed 22 students.

A full range of classes and electives are available (subject to student numbers) to personalise your programmes. All electives are subject to sufficient numbers in order to run and some choices may be restricted to students at higher levels.

  • Business English
  • Focus on communication and fluency
  • Focus on reading and writing
  • IELTS preparation

You also have the option of attending English Club and/or afternoon sports.
