The Bachelor of Environmental Planning (BEP) at Waikato focuses on local, national and global environmental management issues. Areas of research include sustainable housing, freshwater management, Maori resource management and biodiversity conservation.
You'll be taught by leading industry experts who are at the forefront of the latest research and innovation. Their expertise will provide you with a solid foundation in professional planning skills and a specialist degree accredited by the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).
With close connections to the wider Waikato Region and its wealth of natural resource, Waikato's Environmental Planning programme brings together papers from subjects including Environmental Planning, Biology, Economics, Political Science, Geography and Māori and Pacific Development.
The BEP provides you with practical, industry experience gained across labs, workshops and field trips. You'll also benefit from guest lecturers and practical activities, and will attend industry-focused events such as resource management hearings, case law presentations and mock hearings.
This four-year degree is divided into two pathways, each with three streams:
Environmental Science and Resource Planning Pathway:
You'll develop a strong science knowledge to compliment the core environmental planning papers.
Socio-Economic Policy and Planning Pathway:
You'll develop strong economic, political and policy analysis skills to complement the core environmental planning papers.
