The award of MA (Education) is available to students of the Integrated Masters Programme (IMP). This is a flexible programme which supports participants in studying issues based upon their own personal/professional development.The aims of the programme are:to ground this study in personal, professional or academic practiceto balance opportunities for personally-directed study with that in groups of peers, and study within the University or associated institutions with that in the workplaceto offer a programme which will allow you to select from a range of components to meet your particular requirements in terms of content, sequence and timeto enhance the quality of your practice through the encouragement of critical enquiry, innovative thinking and imaginative reformulation
General programme structureThe Integrated Masters Programme offers opportunities for part-time study. It caters for the needs of teachers and other education professionals across the South West and aims to enhance personal knowledge and professional practice through a variety of approaches to study, reflection and critical analysis. Its success rests with its rich blend of expert tuition, recommended reading, directed school or centre-based activities, shared group discussions and supervised module assignments.There are over 80 education modules spanning the whole breadth of the curriculum. The key areas are listed in the programme content section. The modules examine recent research and developments, as well as encouraging new approaches within and across subject boundaries. Modules usually last a term with some involving evening attendance. The successful completion of assignments can lead to the following awards: the Certificate of Advanced Professional Studies (CAPS) or the Postgraduate Certificate (PgCert), or can contribute towards the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) and Master of Arts degree.As well as taught modules in the subject areas highlighted on the right, you can pursue particular interests through independent study modules under expert supervision. Research training forms an integral part of the programme.
