What is your major and why did you choose this program?
I am currently in the GSSP pursing my master’s in Chemical Engineering. I became interested in studying this
field years ago when I participated in my friend’s fashion show back in Nigeria. She was a designer that made clothing out of recycled materials. I thought to myself that there must be an opportunity to create large-scale textiles out of recycled materials. The University of Idaho had the exact program I was looking for, where I could learn and better understand the polymers and processing necessary to make these materials, and to make
a real difference.
Why did you choose the University of Idaho GGSP?
I really liked what I heard about the study environment. I was attracted to the small-town feel of Moscow, Idaho
and the safe and friendly community. The GSSP was exactly the kind of program I was looking for to help give
me a foundation in engineering, and to equip me with the skills to be successful.
What is your favorite thing about the University of Idaho and the GGSP?
I love the whole environment, both in and out of the classroom. My professors are so accessible and friendly and are always there to listen and offer support. It really helps motivate me and makes the learning process easier. The people here at the university and in the community are so friendly and kind. Being a part of the GSSP has helped me adjust to the culture here and to better understand what it’s like to be a university student in the U.S.
What would you recommend to future students?
For future students from Nigeria, or anywhere else in the world, I want you to know how easy it is to fit in here.
The GSSP offers great support, from the moment you arrive in Moscow. Don’t worry about all the details or
specifics such as how to settle in. Everything will be explained, and you will feel at home from day one.
What has been your experience so far in the GSSP?
As a GSSP student, I don’t feel any different than any other student at the University of Idaho. I like how I get to
benefit from both the additional support, advising and programming of the GSSP, while still feeling integrated with the entire University of Idaho. And the best part is that I still get to complete my degree in two years, just as a student entering the UofI directly.
