The importance of materials science has significantly increased as a result of rapid technological developments during the past few years. Consequently, the need for materials scientists in different fields of engineering is growing.

The Master's Degree Programme in Materials Engineering offers multidisciplinary and flexible study opportunities of a high standard and quality. It operates in an internationally-oriented and innovative study and research environment, preparing the students for flexible professional and academic career opportunities both in Finland and abroad. The completion of Masters Program including the thesis work takes 2 to 3 years. The programme is entirely in English and leads to the degree of Master of Science (Technology). Completion of the programme qualifies the student to apply for doctoral degree studies.

Entry requirements

The applicant must have a 3 or 4 years Bachelor of Science degree from an internationally recognized university in the field of Materials Science, Physical or Process Metallurgy, Ceramic Science, Polymer Science, Chemistry (especially polymer chemistry),Textile Technology or related field.

The official language of the Programme is English. Therefore, a good command in English language is an absolute prerequisite. The language certificate is always required when the student's native language is not English.One of the following language tests is required:TOEFL (min. score 92 in internet-based or 580 in paper-based test)IELTS (score 6.5 or higher)Cambridge Language Certificate (Proficiency CPE or Advanced CAE) (grade "C" or higher)PTE Academic 62Score reports can be sent to TUT from the testing centre. The TOEFL code of Tampere University of Technology is 0599. TUT has no institutional code for other language tests.Please notice that any other language certificate or free-form statement can not be accepted.
