About Engineering Physics, BSc - at Sofia University

Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to study the fundamentals of university physics and mathematics, along with applied physics and engineering disciplines connected with technology applications of physical sciences. This combination of subjects results in qualifications, which provide for a successful career in science and in various branches of industry. The undergraduate program has 4-year/ 8-semester full-time and 5-year/10-semester part-time versions. Both lead to a bachelor’s degree in engineering physics and give a range of possibilities for further study and specialization at a graduate and post-graduate level. The full-time curriculum consists of more than 2700 lecture and training hours, spanning over 40 compulsory and elective courses, which provide a minimum of 240 ECTS credits. Core disciplines include linear algebra and analytical geometry, mathematical analysis, probability and statistics, mathematical methods of physics, mechanics, molecular physics, electrical and magnetic phenomena, optics, atomic physics, nuclear and particle physics, theoretical mechanics, quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, statistical physics, etc. The program’s focus on engineering is supported by disciplines such as materials science, fundamentals of technology and engineering design, electronics, information technologies, and general metrology. A set of elective courses enriches the program and allows specialization at choice. Some of the fields students can specialize in are electronics and communication technology, plasma technology, laser physics, microelectronics and semiconductors, nuclear technology, applied optics and spectroscopy, etc. The degree is awarded after passing all semester examinations and successful completion of a graduation thesis, or after passing a final graduation examination.
