Work Placement Opportunity

The way we teach

We've developed a cycle of learning based on theory, practice, experience and observation, and reflection and improvement. So, you'll not only be taught the latest strategies, but also given every opportunity to put your learning into action in real business settings. We structure our courses to encourage constructive learning, self directed study, critical thinking and team work. You'll spend much of your time in small groups workshops and tutorials, discussing and analysising your experience of business practices and behaviours.

Consultancy projects

A unique feature of the Nottingham Business School MBA is the opportunity to put your skills into practice during two hands-on business consultancy projects. The first, part of your Strategic Change and Consultancy module, is a team project for a UK business. The second is in an international context, giving you the chance to internationalise your experience and develop your global business mindset while tackling fascinating, real-world challenges with a critical impact on organisational performance.

The Team Consultancy Project in the UK

You will take an integrative and critical approach, in a UK location, to applying the perspectives and disciplines covered during the course, and experience a strategic management perspective.

You'll also complete a consultancy report and give a formal executive board presentation. Projects have been completed for companies such as 3M, Boots, The Red Cross, Experian, CISCO, and British Telecom

The International Consultancy Experience

This module culminates in an international study tour, including attending workshops hosted by one of our prestigious international partners, going on company visits, and presenting to your client organisation.

Careers and employability

Support for MBA students' career development.

MBA students are given excellent careers support from the University's Employability team to help them source placements and secure employment on completion of their course. Throughout the year there are workshops and skills sessions to help the students with their professional development and career management.

  • Employer Masterclasses

Students receive dedicated and tailored support from NBS's Postgraduate Personal Development Coordinator and additional specialist workshops run throughout the year to respond to students' needs. The students also have access to MBA specific on-line careers resources such as MBA Exchange, connecting MBAs and employers from around the world and EFMD's HigherED jobs portal (for accredited business schools only).

In addition, the MBA students are each assigned an academic mentor to help them make the most of their time at NBS. The academic mentors support the students in developing and enhancing the qualities and transferrable skills necessary for their studies, career progression, professional and personal development. MBA students are also given the opportunity to be matched with an industry mentor. These industry mentors give the students insight into their particular organisation and sector and can discuss possible career directions with them.

Personal, Professional and Leadership Development Programme (PPLD)


Throughout your time with us, you'll attend PPLD workshops, developing professional, strategic, transferrable skills. Each workshop focuses on personal, professional or career development, spanning everything from emotional intelligence to creative job hunting and conflict resolution.

  • £17,885 (two years with placement - £16,500 in year one and £1,385 in year two)

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • a first degree (normally 2.1) or an equivalent professional or academic qualification
  • a period of professional work experience incorporating operational responsibilities - three years minimum, preferably five
  • two academic or vocational references.

English language requirements:

  • IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each skill)

In exceptional circumstances applicants without a degree will be considered, if they can demonstrate in their personal statement that they have been in a senior management position, managing people and budgets, for more than eight years.
